When the team at Ugambling heard that there was an online casino that combines two of our favourite things – online slots and food –
we simply had to take a look. Fortunately for us, while there was no sign of any real food, we did find an enjoyable gaming experience
from a casino that’s now a little over 2 years old. Here’s what we thought when we stopped-in for a quick spin at Slots Café:
Branding itself as an American diner experience, serving-up a fresh menu of slots and other casino games, Slots Café is pleasing on the eye and has a recognisable feel to it. We could well imagine walking into a roadside diner on Route 66 and finding something akin to Slots Café. As an online casino, the navigation is clear and simple, with a clearly labelled main navigation menu at the top of the screen, and games categories sitting above a 3x5 grid of games. While nothing ground-breaking, it is perfectly functional.
One criticism we do have of the interface is that there is an awful lot of things going on in the main lobby. Not only do we find that nearly half of the screen is devoted to cycling-through promotions, but we also see the space below that given-over to highlighting the number of recent winners (through both a tracker bar and accumulative winnings total) and another attempt to highlight the “Deposit” promotion. These issues all disappear when you load Slots Café up on a mobile device, however; where simplicity is the order of the day. The navigation menu on mobile/tablet devices was particularly easy for us to use with our chubby fingers.
Perusing the list of games available at Slots Café reveals that slots are indeed the main focus of this online casino. If it really were a café, then a typical order would likely be a large portion of slots with some slots on the side. The selection does not disappoint, with most of the latest slots available from most of the big-name gaming providers – NetEnt, NYX, Evolutions and Microgaming were all present, to name a few. Finding our favourite slots was an easy task, with the handy additions of both a search box and a drop-down list of all gaming providers to search with – you certainly won’t need to work-up an appetite searching through the 400+ games available, thanks to these useful tools.
Alas, Ugambling’s attention span is not what it used to be, so after spending a good 10 minutes playing slots, we decided to have a look at the more traditional casinos games available. Fortunately, we can report that Slots Café had us covered with a reasonable selection of casino and live dealer games. If you haven’t yet tried it, we can certainly recommend ‘Dream Catcher’ as a fun game to play, with some great interaction from the host.
There is a varied selection of deposit and withdrawal methods to choose from, ranging from credit/debit cars to big name e-wallets like Skrill or Neteller. Players should note that there is a minimum value of £/€20 imposed on deposits.
The minimum withdrawal request was slightly higher, at £/€30 and the only other limit placed on withdrawals is much maligned rule that winnings over £/€100,000.00 shall be paid in 10 equal instalments. Ugambling would be much, much happier if this clause was removed from the terms & conditions, although we do not think that this alone should discourage anyone from playing at this particular casino – just don’t leave the waitress a tip!
When it was time to withdrawer our funds, we found the process to be very simple. After making the request, we were promptly asked to verify our identity by submitting copies of standard ID documents from a list, after which we were told that we had been verified and that our withdrawal would be processed. It then took just shy of 3 days to see the money in our account, which we were perfectly satisfied with. Verification checks and “pending periods” may seem like a common theme throughout online casinos, but they are a great sign that an operator is responsible and complying with it’s obligations as part of its gambling license.
We are happy to report that we encountered no issues during our time with this online casino, so our contact with the support service was simply to test response times. For those who want immediate assistance, there is an ever-present live chat tab to the right of the screen. While we couldn’t verify the operating hours of this service, it was available both during afternoon and evening hours, which is when the majority of players will likely be playing. Surprisingly, our email to the customer support email address was answered within 20 minutes, which is a really nice touch.
Things get very curious when you head to the “Promotions” page at Slots Café, with some interesting choices in names from some promotions. First-up is the “Welcome Bonus” – nice and simple; it’s accompanied by an image of a waitress holding-up a plate of money. Even Ugambling can understand this – it’s called Slots Café, so they have a picture of a waitress and money. An easy connection to make.
Second; it’s the “2nd Deposit Sauce”. Again, we see the connection here – it’s a café, and you will likely want some sauce on your food. They even take it a little further with the appropriate use of the word “dessert” in the description. The image, however; left us a little confused, as we were unable to figure-out the link between “sauce”, “dessert”, and what appears to be some sort of Viking god holding up a huge stone slab.
Finally, there’s the “3rd Deposit Mayhem”. What is this “mayhem” we hear you ask? Well, we’re not quite sure but, judging from the accompanying image, it may have something to do with a car. This final deposit does not, on first appearances, seem to have much to do with the café theme at-all but, on closer inspection, we see the team at Slots Café has managed to shoe-horn in the word “sauce”, so we guess that makes it all OK, then.
We do not, in any way, recommend casino bonuses as a value for money proposition, and would like to draw particular attention to the wagering requirements of 35 times the bonus value, with only slots and scratch cards counting towards the wagering requirements. There are casinos out there with more favourable wagering requirements, but the 35 times requirement of Slots Café is very common.
Slots Café is licensed by both the UK Gambling Commission and the Maltese Gaming Authority. These are 2 of the best gaming licenses an online casino can hold and ensure that players are protected from any rouge operators.
Ugambling will certainly be returning to Slots Café for our fix of slot games. We really enjoyed the American diner theme, and the selection of slots was very satisfying. This online casino could clearly benefit from focusing a little less on poor value promotions, but more than makes up for it with fantastic customer support and a clean, crisp mobile experience. The bizarre promotion descriptions made us laugh, too, which is more than can be said for a lot of online casinos.
